At a house party in the spring of 1961, she met a young engineer, Robert I. Millar, Jr., whom she married that August. In 1966, she moved with, by then, three children to Bedford where Bob had accepted a position at MITRE. Once the kids, including a fourth born at Emerson Hospital, were all in school, Helen became a substitute teacher at Bedford High and Junior High schools for many years.

She was very active in the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Bedford for several decades. Helen was also active in the Bedford chapter of the Emerson Auxiliary for many years, making puppets and teddy bears for the pediatric patients.

Helen was predeceased by her husband Bob. She is survived by all four of her children, who were able to be with her for her last days, and five grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Congregational Church in the New Year.
