The 2022 Fall Varsity Cheerleaders are enjoying a fun and successful season!  The team grew to 26 cheerleaders this year, enhancing Buccaneers Varsity Football games with vibrance and spirit! The return of traveling to away games had Bedford crowds cheering, and the student section performing “the Wave” at all games this season.

Not only did the team grace the sidelines of Sabourin Field, but they also competed twice this fall, which took many hours of preparation to perfect their complex routines, although these talented student-athletes made it look easy!  On Sunday, October 23, both varsity and junior varsity groups represented Bedford at the Think Pink Competition at Billerica Memorial High School. On Saturday, November 5, both groups again represented Bedford at the Dual County League Cheer Competition at Concord Carlisle High School.  The Varsity team placed and will be advancing to the Regional competition next weekend in Billerica.

BHS cheer was coached this season by Head Coach Costopulos and Assistant Coach Baptiste. With 10 seniors on the cheer team, five were named captain: Shane Metcalf, Libby Squire, Olivia DiSaronno, Sofia Quaglioz, and Amy Lerra. Senior Jack Staines served as team manager.

Organized by cheer parent Pamela Wetherbee-Metcalf, cheer boosters came together with fundraising efforts to support costs of uniforms, bows, poms, stunt coaching, and team gear. Thank you to everyone who supported these efforts with donations, attending the car wash, purchasing mums, purchasing BHS euro stickers, and visiting the booths at Bedford Day. The overall support this year has been tremendous for this co-ed team! This Tuesday, November 8, between 4 and 10 p.m., please dine-in or take-out at Red Heat Tavern, as 10% of all sales will go to Bedford Buccaneer Cheerleading!

In November there will be more opportunities to see cheer performances at the remaining playoff football games, as well as the Thanksgiving game against Burlington at home. Cheerleaders will inspire crowds as they cheer and stunt both on the sidelines and with half-time performances to finish out the 2022 Fall season.
