Note from the Co-Presidents of The Bedford Citizen
We are pleased to announce the selection of Wayne Braverman as the new Managing Editor of The Bedford Citizen beginning today. Wayne has a long career in local journalism including experience in both print and digital media with the Community Newspaper Company in Needham and Boston Herald Interactive. He worked for GateHouse Media for 15 years as a senior editor, developing and executing editorial strategies and experimenting with new methods of journalism to develop and produce content. He has been successful in expanding the scope of local coverage and developing and implementing plans for increasing readership in his previous positions. Most recently he was editor of Boston Homes for Gannett-GateHouse Media New England. Please join us in welcoming Wayne to The Citizen.
My name is Wayne Braverman and I am looking forward with great enthusiasm to being the next Managing Editor of The Bedford Citizen. For me, accepting this position brings me full circle: I started my career as a freelance reporter right here in Bedford where I grew up and have lived for most of my life.
I graduated from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell with a degree in Political Science and I earned a Master’s degree in Journalism from Boston University.
My decades-long journalism career has included work as a reporter, senior editor, and managing editor of online and print publications in several Metro Boston and suburban communities. In addition to those responsibilities, I have for the last several years worked with Bedford TV as a program creator and host.
On the lighter side, I’m a member of Toastmasters, have written and produced a murder-mystery play, and enjoy traveling, cooking, photography, sports, and gardening.
I believe I will bring relevant experience to my new role…but I have a lot to learn, too. I want The Citizen to continue to be a trusted news resource for all our readers and I want it to be a place to share ideas and opinions. Finally, I am well aware that I am stepping into the very big shoes of Julie Turner, Founder and Managing Editor, who has worked with extraordinary diligence to shape The Citizen into the outstanding resource it has become. The bar is high. I will work hard to build on this wonderful foundation and with your help, provide the leadership to take us to the next level of excellence.
