State Primary ~ September 6 ~ Info for Voters

There are multiple options for voting in the September 6 Massachusetts Primary. At the polls on Election Day, early in-person voting in the Reed Room at Bedford Town Hall on Mudge Way; early voting by mail; and absentee ballots.

New voters must register by August 27

The last day to register to vote for the state primary is Saturday, August 27, 2022 (The Town Clerk’s Office will be open 9 am-5 pm).

Register to vote by mail before 5 pm Monday, August 29

A recently signed state law, the “VOTES Act,” authorized mail-in voting for state elections permanently.

A vote by mail application was sent to all registered voters and no excuse is needed to take advantage of this voting option. To access a copy of the application, please see https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/Vote-by-Mail-Paper-Application-2022.pdf.

Please submit completed applications to Town Clerk (emailed to [email protected]; hand-delivered to Town Hall; or mailed to Town Clerk, 10 Mudge Way, Bedford, MA 01730).

The deadline for the Town Clerk to receive a vote by mail applications for the primary is 5 pm on Monday, August 29, 2022. Then, the mailed ballots themselves must be received by election day.

August 27 until September 2

  • Saturday, August 27, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Monday, August 29, 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Tuesday, August 30, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Wednesday, August 31, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Thursday, September 1, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Friday, September 2, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Vote on Election Day at John Glenn Middle School
In Person: 7 am to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 6

Please note: Unlike most election days, this year’s state primary falls on a school day (the first day of school!). Please park only in designated voter parking spaces. When inside the school, please stay within the gymnasium area in order to ensure student privacy and minimize educational disruption. Voters are encouraged to avoid voting during high traffic and student movement times such as dropoff (7:15-7:45 am), lunch (11:15 am-12:30 pm), and pickup (2:00-2:30 pm), if possible.    

Absentee Ballots

Please note that voters must qualify with an excuse to vote via absentee ballot. Vote by mail (option #3 on this list) is open to any registered voter, and no excuse is necessary.
