The Bedford Citizen is committed to informing and engaging the Bedford community. Through reporting news of local significance, promoting local events, fostering connectivity, and encouraging participation, we aim to reach as many people in our community as possible. And as our ability to meet the needs of the community grows, we want our content to be accessible to those whose first language is not English.
Today we are launching a translation feature on our website. Readers will see “Select Language” on our main menu. From there, readers can switch from English to one of five languages: Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. With help from the Bedford Public Schools’ ELS department, we learned that after English these are the languages most spoken in Bedford schools.
This new feature will translate text but cannot convert pdfs or other non-text content.
We hope this will give The Citizen an opportunity to inform, engage, and connect with more neighbors and help our community be more inclusive and accessible.
If you encounter an issue with this new feature, please contact us using this link. We appreciate your feedback.
