The Sixties Ball At The Burlington Mall

How many Bedford Citizen readers remember the wonderful ball that took up the entire main mall floor from one end to the other?

That was back in the early days of the “new mall” that had appeared between Bedford, Burlington, and Lexington.  Swing dancing was still popular, and dancers were thrilled to have a new venue right down the road!

Who wouldn’t want to go?  There were three bands:  The Tex Beneke (old Glenn Miller to forties fans), a smaller jazz band, and a Latin trio.  All were excellent and were placed appropriately apart, end to end, free beer on tap, and champagne fountains between.

Of course, as mall shoppers know, the floor was hard, but smooth, but dancers can take a little pain where good music is at hand.

I forget what tickets cost, but it clearly wasn’t prohibitive because there was an enthusiastic crowd for the whole evening.  I also don’t recall just when the music stopped (the three bands alternated their intermissions) – but I do recall that my twinkly “high heels” were killing me by the time we were heading for our car in the parking lot, and on to taking the babysitter home.

How about your recollections?
