Come Enjoy!  The Seventh Annual Jacob Wren Throckmorton Art Show will take place on Saturday, April 9 at the Bedford Council on Aging (BCOA) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This annual festival includes family-friendly rock painting, refreshments, and the richness of local artists’ creative works.

Each year the life of a local artist, Jacob Wren Throckmorton, is remembered and celebrated with a spectacular art show and festivities at the Bedford Council on Aging (BCOA). The Art Show, now in its seventh year, is an annual tribute to Jacob, a talented young artist whose works spanned the world of art forms encompassing: literary essays, prints, oil paintings, three-dimensional pieces, and more. It is difficult to fully describe the passion with which Jacob embraced life through his artistic endeavors. This will be the first year the Art Show will transition to the sole focus on the artistic creations of seniors from Bedford and surrounding communities.

Jacob’s life ended suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of nineteen when he died in his sleep from myocarditis. Myocarditis is, for the most part, asymptomatic, and thus difficult to diagnose. According to the Myocarditis Foundation, “Myocarditis usually attacks otherwise healthy people. It is believed that 5 to 20% of all cases of sudden death in young adults are due to myocarditis.” For more information regarding this condition, visit http://www.myocarditisfoundation.org/about-myocarditis/.

Though Jacob’s life was much too brief, his legacy lives on through the love of art and the passion of capturing life in all its shades as seen in the works of many artists.

Wondering about the correlation between the Bedford Council on Aging and artist Jacob Wren Throckmorton?  While in high school Jacob volunteered regularly at the BCOA, where he supported and entertained seniors on Saturday mornings.  Jacob enjoyed offering fresh bagels and strumming his guitar for his appreciative listeners.  He quickly won the hearts of the Saturday BCOA activities coordinators and the many seniors who looked forward to his weekly visits.  His warm and caring demeanor is vividly remembered by all who attended the Saturday gatherings.

In the spirit of what Jacob would surely want, the art show committee invites seniors from Bedford and surrounding communities to submit artwork of any format. There is no cost for submissions or admission.  Art media from previous years’ submissions included stenciling, oils on canvas, black and white pencil sketches, three-dimensional wood and rock sculptures, handmade quilts, designer fashion sketches, watercolor paintings, literary essays, dollhouses, needlepoint, pottery, photography, prints, handmade purses and accessories, and so much more.

Submissions can be dropped off at the COA: Friday, April 1 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 4, and Tuesday, April 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors are welcome and admittance is complimentary with donations pleasantly accepted and appreciated. Visitors will have the opportunity to view, experience, reflect, and mingle.  Inspiring and reflective conversations as one ponders the art are part of the wonderful energy of this event.
