It can be very frustrating finding a reliable way to keep a cut avocado fresh.
I use half for a recipe or on my sandwich and wrap up the other half only to find it has turned brown and bitter by the next day.
I have tried several methods for preserving that half – sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t, but for me a red onion seems to consistently get the job done.
Let me show you how!
It works! For two days, at least. I wonder if this would work for leftover guacamole?
Unfortunately I never have left over guacamole haha but I wonder if some onions on top or even a few squirts of lime juice would do the trick? So glad the tip kept your avocado fresh for two days – good to know it can stay fresh that long!
Here is another good reason for the Town of Bedford to reconsider what its doing by decimating our mature trees, which are among the most valuable resources that this town has.

Have you heard of cutting the pit in half and squeezing out the juice? I saw this on line, but never tried it. Cutting an onion up sounds easier that cutting one of those pits!
Hi Caroline!
No I have not heard about cutting the pit and squeezing out the juice – I didn’t even know that was possible to be honest! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, and for giving me something new to research. :)

i am fan of avocado as well which i eat every single day! i just found online that adding water! to your container seems to keep the avocado from degrading. you may want to give it a try!
Hi Richard!
Aren’t avocados just the best? I feel like I am slightly addicted to them and my daughter got me hooked on adding some to my smoothies each day. :) Yes I have tried the water method by placig it in a container and covering it with water but found that my avocado ended up being a bit slimy on the cut surface and water logged (for lack of a better term). It definitely kept it fresh though! If you use this method sure to change the water daily. Thanks so much for commenting and adding another great option to keeping them fresh!
