An Update from Superintendent Conrad ~ March 30, 2022

This past weekend the Bedford Public Schools was made aware of a highly inappropriate TikTok video that was posted publicly last week on an individual student’s social media account without approval or consent and remains under investigation by the Bedford High School administrative team.

Bedford Public Schools (and our entire town) is an inclusive and compassionate community. We take very seriously that our clubs, activities, and athletics serve as an extension and reflection of our school community. Our students have heard a unified message regarding the perils of social media and the negative impact of this video on our school and our community. It is important that our students understand the impact of their actions, learn from these actions, and understand how to make better decisions in the future.

While the video has been removed from TikTok, it has been reported that members of the community are continuing to distribute and comment on it via social media; it would be extremely helpful if this stopped. This has made it more difficult to work through the natural and imposed consequences, as well as allow the students to focus on their restorative actions and the growth needed to learn from this situation.

When incidents like this occur, we are always interested in more than simple discipline. The goal of intervention is to allow students to change behavior and develop positive constructive behaviors. As a district, we continue to value teachable moments, restorative practices, and will continue to balance accountability with growth as we move forward from this incident.
