The Bedford Trails Committee is excited to announce a leader-led Trail Walk to Bedford’s Old Rez/Valente land. Meet at Bedford Public Library at 10 am, on Saturday, January 8. Trails Committee member Peter Desjardins will lead the hike.

Known as ‘The Old Rez,’ the Old Reservoir land is one of Bedford’s most interesting and popular municipal open space areas with diverse terrain surrounding the picturesque old reservoir.

The dam and historic well house—built circa 1908 and renovated in 2013—add to the appeal of this serene wilderness area. The reservoir itself is no longer in use as a public water supply but the area has been maintained for passive recreation.

A significant feature of the terrain is its changing grade. Steep inclines and declines provide for more strenuous hiking than typically found on other trails within the Bedford trail network.

Because of possibly wet/slippery terrain, appropriate footwear is important and hikers are encouraged to bring water bottles.
