Letter to the Editor: Wednesday’s BARC Hearing to Discuss Removal of up to 135 North Road Trees

Plans are moving ahead for the North Road/Chelmsford Road intersection redesign.  These plans include the construction of sidewalks on the east side of Chelmsford Road from Isabella Lane to the intersection and on the west side of North Road from the intersection to Sweetwater Avenue.  The project will require the removal of 55 public trees and 80 trees on private property along the route.  83 trees will be replaced.  37 of the public trees are 12” diameter or less and 18 are from 14” to 50” diameter.

The Bedford Arbor Resources Committee (BARC) is reviewing the tree removal and replacement plans.  Jeanette Rebecchi, the Bedford transportation program manager, will present an overview of the plans at the next BARC meeting on Wednesday, August 18 at 7:30 pm. This will be a presentation on the project’s effect on trees and an opportunity for public comment and input before the required official Shade Tree Hearing in September.
