The Bedford Patriotic Holiday Committee is disappointed to announce that Bedford’s Memorial Day outdoor activities tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 31, 2021, have been canceled.
The cancelation includes all Town ceremonies, events, and the annual parade. The overriding concern for canceling these events is the safety and health of all Memorial Day participants and attendees as we still continue to deal with the pandemic.
This decision [in early April] was not made lightly. It followed discussions undertaken with Town government officials based on the then-current state public health guidelines.
It is regrettable that COVID-19 health concerns continue to keep us from gathering as a community on Memorial Day to honor our veterans, particularly those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please keep our veterans and active military in your thoughts and prayers, along with everyone who is keeping us safe during these challenging times.
There will be a virtual Memorial Day town observance televised on Bedford TV and via YouTube on Monday, May 31. Program details will be made available shortly.
It’s a sad state of affairs when we can gather in abundance in stores and other places, even protests, etc., and not gather even outdoors to honor our veterans & those who died to give us our freedom!! Shame on those who made this decision!
The decision to hold a virtual observance was made long before the Commonwealth opened on May 29.
