With the arrival of spring comes the Ruby Throated Hummingbird, exhausted from its very long travel to the North.
There are lots of feeders out there to choose from, but these two simple designs are my all time favorites.
They suction to a window which will let you enjoy their antics whether you are inside or out, and the small ones can even be held in your hand. Nothing like a close encounter with a hummingbird!
RECIPE: 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. PLEASE DON’T ADD RED DYE!!!
For example, ¼ cup of sugar mixed with 1 cup of hot water.
Let mixture cool then add to your feeder.
Be sure to clean the feeders once a week to keep away mold and bacteria.
Extra ‘nectar’ can be stored in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to a week.
