DPW Urges Respect for the Serene Nature of Shawsheen Cemetery

There are many locations in Bedford for outdoor recreation opportunities this spring. Director of Public Works David Manugian emphasized that Shawsheen Cemetery is not one of them.

This week Manugian issued a “gentle reminder” that persons refrain from using the cemetery as a venue for jogging and walking dogs.

“The town encourages people to use its recreational resources, but it wants to retain the serene nature of the cemetery. It’s really a place for quiet contemplation and peaceful reflection,” he said.

Manugian also asked that hikers who use the trail network east of Shawsheen Cemetery find other places to park their cars.

DPW Grounds Division personnel are paying special attention to the cemetery in the weeks leading to Memorial Day, Manugian said.
