Reflections in the Time of Pandemic: First Church of Christ

March 19, 2021

On Sunday, March 14, 2021, members of First Church of Christ, Congregational U.C.C., gathered outside at the front of the church to bless and hang Remembrance Beads that represent each of the 16,281 deaths due to COVID-19 in Massachusetts.

Fortunately, the daily rate is decreasing, but it has not yet ceased. We will continue to add beads to make sure all who have died are remembered. Like the beads, the individuals they represent were uniquely beautiful and diverse. Collectively, they make a tapestry that will be sorely missed.

Thank you to the over 30 people who threaded beads, rang a bell or chime, did a reading, and came together to commemorate these lives. We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

At First Church of Christ on March 14, a service to remember the more than 16,000 Massachusetts residents who lost their lives during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic; each bead represents one death.
