Details from Superintendent Conrad for Bedford’s Return to Full-Time, In-Person Learning

I wanted to let you know that we are busy planning for the return of students to all four schools five (5) days per week.

This is so that we can be in compliance with the Commissioner’s announcement on March 9, 2021, that Hybrid and Remote learning days will no longer be counted towards Student Learning Time (SLT) as of April 5, 2021, for elementary school students and April 28, 2021, for middle school students.

To this point, the Commissioner has not set a return date for high school students throughout the Commonwealth. Please note that the only exception to this is for students who remain in our all remote program.  This program will continue through the end of the school year.  For more information on the Commissioner’s announcement please navigate to https://www.doe.mass.edu/covid19/on-desktop.html

With this as a backdrop, I wanted to give you more information about the upcoming changes to our schedule.  Each building will be sending additional building-specific information in the next few days and weeks.

DAVIS and LANE

To begin with, both the Eleazer Davis and the Job Lane Schools are on track to return to five (5) day a week in-person learning on Monday, April 5, 2021. Both are planning to return to a school day schedule that loosely mirrors the start and end times of their February 2020 schedules.

Each school will have full days on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Each will also have a ¾ day on Wednesdays.  Please note that the Pre-Kindergarten will have morning sessions only on Wednesday only.  There will be no Pre-Kindergarten sessions on Wednesday afternoons.

In preparation for the change, the Lane School will take its second professional day on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. There will be no classes for Lane students on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

JGMS and BHS

Both John Glenn Middle School and Bedford High School will return to school on Monday, April 26, 2021, two days ahead of the Commissioner’s deadline for middle school students to return to in-person learning.  Both schools are planning to return to a school day schedule that mirrors that of February 2020.  Each school will have full days on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

In preparation for the change to the five (5) day a week in-person learning JGMS and BHS will take two (2) professional days on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, and Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

There will be no classes for either school on those two days as we prepare for the change over to the five (5) day a week in-person learning both JGMS and BHS.

More information will be forthcoming from each of the principals to update you on school-specific changes, and adjustments.

As always, thank you for your patience, your participation, and your continued commitment to our schools.
