Donations Benefit Organizations Battling Food Insecurity and Feeding Front Line Hospital Staff

Two Bedford food relief efforts have benefited from separate $15,000 donations from a global biopharma corporation.

The gifts last month from Belgium-based UCB will support the efforts of the town’s temporary food bank and the grass-roots group Operation Feed the Soul. Town Manager Sarah Stanton said a corporate representative reached out to the town’s economic development director, Alyssa Sandoval, with the offer.

The food bank, through the town Health and Human Services Department, assists families with children in the Bedford schools who need food support, as well as vulnerable veterans and seniors and existing clients of the Bedford Food Pantry. Operation Feed the Soul purchases bulk food orders from restaurants in the area and delivers them to personnel at hospitals and other health care institutions throughout the region. The grass-roots group formed early in March and now has scores of volunteers and 1,600 friends on its Facebook group.
