Are you eligible for property tax exemption or property tax deferral, but don’t know how to apply? Did you know the deadline to apply was extended to June 1?
Bedford’s Board of Assessors member Bruce Murphy and Victor Garofalo, Finance Director, will provide a virtual presentation and answer any questions you may have, giving you time to complete and submit any applications.
Email [email protected] before 7 pm on Tuesday, May 19 to register and receive the presentation link. Please put “Tax Presentation” in the subject line of your email.
Applications may be submitted for a number of property tax relief programs available to Bedford residents who are seniors, blind, or veterans. One that is not widely used is perhaps the most accessible – a full exemption from the Community Preservation Act fees that appear on your tax bill.
Please attend the meeting to learn more!
What is Clause 41A and what is the amendment?
At the April 2019 Annual Town Meeting, the voters passed an amendment to the Clause 41A Property Tax Deferral program for seniors. The purpose of Clause 41A is to allow seniors who are hindered with local property taxes to be able to defer their taxes. The taxes will be deferred until either the property is sold or it goes to the heirs. At Annual Town Meeting in April 2019, the interest rate was lowered from 8% to 3% in order to make it more attractive to citizens who might want to take advantage of this program.
