School Committee Cancels April Vacation, Moves School Year End to June 24

April 11, 2020

At their April 9 meeting, the School Committee canceled the April vacation and moved the end of the school year to June 24, 2020. The cancellation reflects the schools’ shift towards online education and concern about the detrimental effect a vacation could have.

The School Committee approved a motion to continue to pay employees as long as the schools remain closed due to Covid-19. To facilitate routine business the Committee authorized the chair to be the sole signatory on contracts, MOU’s (Memorandums of Understanding), and the payment of warrants. PDF versions will be delivered to the full School Committee.

The School Committee then adjourned to Executive Session to discuss strategy moving towards non-union negotiations, particularly the recent selection of Phillip Conrad as the next Superintendent of Bedford Public Schools.
