Hanscom AFB will conduct a base exercise scenario of an active shooter situation Feb. 20 to evaluate the installation’s readiness and emergency response capabilities.
The exercise may cause disruptions to daily routines and normal operations, and personnel should anticipate situations such as lockdowns, restrictions and/or evacuations. Activities may also affect customer service functions and traffic entering and exiting the installation.
“We want to increase preparedness while exercising agency response procedures should a real-world situation ever take place,” said Stephen Ramos, Wing Inspection Team manager.
Base leadership is emphasizing safety to all involved, and if any real-world emergency takes place, they will stop the exercise immediately.
Wing Inspection Team members will be monitoring the scenario and if a member of Team Hanscom sees something that he or she believes to be unsafe, they should report it to a WIT member – identifiable by blue vests – immediately.
As a reminder, personnel should only call 911 for real-world emergencies.
