Post-storm Post – Thursday, October 17 at 6 am

October 17, 2019

Howling winds and torrential rains overnight left their mark on Bedford: roads closed due to downed trees and twigs, millions of slippery wet leaves, and power outages.

Bedford schools are open, on a two-hour delay. Students already in transit at 6:15 am will be welcomed at JGMS and BHS.

Town Manager Sarah Stanton tweeted a few minutes ago, “Morning, Bedford! After a stormy evening, the Town is currently 45% w/o power.@EversourceMA is in Town addressing issues, & Police, Fire & DPW staff have been out all evening to ensure safety. More updates to come! Stay tuned.”

According to Eversource’s outage page (https://outagemap.eversource.com), the power went out for 1,526 customers along Springs Road, just north of the VA. West Bedford went dark shortly after 1 am, affecting 1,249 customers.

A Code Red Robo Call from the Town of Bedford came shortly before 6 am, cautioning residents about downed trees closing Hartwell Road and Page Road. The message added that downed wires should be presumed to be live, and should be avoided.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they come available.
