Bedford’s football home opener with Saugus High School has been moved forward to 4 pm on Friday afternoon at Sabourin Field. The change will assure that the game can be completed before dusk.

In a Facebook post, Director of Athletics and Wellness for the Bedford School Department Keith Mangan added, “All Sports schedules will be adjusted on a weekly basis! We are in the process of rescheduling evening activities and practice/contest sites that are in high-risk areas.”

On Saturday, Bedford’s Health Department issued a directive closing all outdoor recreational facilities, including athletic fields, ball courts, public parks, playgrounds, and sports courts, between dusk and dawn to avoid the threat of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Several surrounding towns and Hanscom Air Force Base have posted similar closures.

According to the 2019 Massachusetts Arbovirus Daily Update risk map on September 9, Bedford remains among the communities at moderate risk for EEE.
