A World of Music Spring Concert Series in Bedford and Lowell

Middlesex Community College’s A World of Music Spring Concert Series will open with a collaboration between the Art and Music departments on Friday, March 15 at 8:00 pm in the new Recital Hall of the Academic Arts Center in Lowell.

Beginning at 6:30 pm throughout the Academic Arts Center there will be a faculty art exhibit featuring sculpture, painting, ceramics, stained glass, photography, collage and works on paper. The concert will include music which reflects the cultures, images and emotions of the artwork. MCC faculty members Orlando Cela, flute, Carmen Rodriguez-Peralta, piano and Anna Ward, soprano will be joined by David Clark, composer/double bass and Steve Hunt, piano. Works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Olivier Messiaen, Chinary Ung, Jaime Le?n, Jacques Ibert, David Clark and Beau Kenyon will be featured.

On Friday, April 5 at 8:00 pm in the Bedford Concert Hall the cello quartet Holes in the Floor will perform a colorful program of works by J.S Bach, Ian Wiese, Jeremy Crosmer, Claude Debussy and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Also in the Bedford Concert Hall, on Friday, April 26 at 8:00 pm there will be a chamber music concert featuring John Ferrillo, Principal Oboe of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth Ostling, Associate Principal Flute of the BSO, William Rounds cello and Carmen Rodriguez-Peralta, piano. They will perform music for various combinations of these instruments by Franz Joseph Haydn, Aaron Copland, Olivier Messiaen, Maurice Ravel and Philippe Gaubert.

The April 26 concert will be repeated in the Recital Hall of the Academic Arts Center in Lowell on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 pm.

The final two concerts in the series will be in the Bedford Concert Hall. There will be a student recital on Monday, May 6 at 12:30 pm, and the concert series will conclude with a concert for two guitars and violin on Friday, May 10 at 8:00 pm. MCC faculty member Raley Beggs, guitar, will join guitarist Adam Levin and violinist William Knuth to perform an evening of exciting music from Spain, Latin America and the United States. Works by Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Morales-Caso, Lucas Foss, Joaquin Rodrigo, Manuel Ponce and George Gershwin will be featured.
