The Bedford Fire Department collaborated in a ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate the late Thomas Hudner, a Medal of Honor recipient from Concord who died last year at age 93.

A U.S. Navy destroyer named for Hudner will be commissioned in Boston on Saturday, December 1, and a memorial to him was dedicated in Concord center on Wednesday. The Hudner’s crew held a pre-dedication training run where Bedford’s and Concord’s ladder trucks flew the American flag over the finish line.

According to The Navy Times, “Lt. j.g. Thomas Hudner, a Fall River native and longtime Concord resident who was awarded the Medal of Honor for crash-landing his plane to try to save the life of another pilot during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in December 1950”
