Richard Kimball, national president of Vote Smart, will speak at Bedford’s First Parish, Unitarian/Universalist at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, November. 2. His talk is free and is sponsored by the Civic Issues Group at Carleton-Willard Village.

Kimball is on a national tour to inform the voting public of the information tools that Vote Smart, a non-profit voter information research organization based in Iowa, has on offer. Vote Smart’s information helps in making voting decisions based on facts, rather than the emotional appeals so often featured in campaign ads. Bedford citizens, as well as those from surrounding towns, are encouraged to attend the talk and the reception that follows.

Vote Smart is a nonprofit organization founded by a cross-section of national leaders to provide a trustworthy database of information to voters. Founded in 1992 it dubs itself “The Voters’ Self-Defense System.”  It features a range of information on each candidate collected under tabs such as biography, voting history, positions, ratings, speeches, and funding. It depends on volunteers and private donations.

The free program will take place in the sanctuary at First Parish, Unitarian Universalist, on Bedford Common. The building is fully accessible through its Elm Street entrance.
