Former resident of Hanscom Air Force Base and Shootout for Soldiers organizer Col. Mike Sullivan announced recently that the 2018 Boston Shootout for Soldier raised over $30,000 to benefit our nation’s wounded veterans. This was the fourth year when the Boston Lacrosse community supported Shootout for Soldiers, a 24-hour lacrosse marathon.

Held at UMass Lowell, over 500 lacrosse players of all ages, backgrounds, and genders participated in the event. Team Angry Bear from Derry, NH raised over $6000, an incredible amount which put them on the top ten list of all fundraising teams across the country!

The Veteran’s game featured military veterans from the Vietnam War to Afghanistan to Iraq.  It was incredible to see these Vets out there giving it their all on the lacrosse field!  Additionally, alumni teams from both Tufts and UMass Lowell put on a display of incredible lacrosse.

Col. Sullivan, returned from a year-long deployment in Baghdad just in time to play in the event. Then he and all of his children — each of whom has been a Bedford lacrosse player — returned from their new home in Virginia to play in the Boston Shootout.

While Col. Sullivan was deployed in Iraq, UMass Lowell graduate Rachael Rennie picked up the slack and helped to lead another successful event.

“Keep an eye out for the 5th Annual Shootout for Soldiers lacrosse charity event to support our wounded veterans in early summer 2019,” said Col. Sullivan.
