Today State Senator Mike Barrett endorsed Secretary of State Bill Galvin in his bid for re-election. Senator Barrett represents the Third Middlesex District. Senator Barrett serves as Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Elections Law and as Chair of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy.
“Before he even ran for Secretary of State, Bill was an expert on elections and elections law,” said Senator Barrett. “Today we find ourselves at a moment in which the integrity of the electoral system is under threat from hackers abroad. Given the threat, Secretary Galvin’s policy expertise and practical know-how are profoundly relevant. He has worked with cities and towns to keep our voting process distributed, decentralized, and local. He has kept us on a paper-only ballot system and kept our voting system off the internet and unhacked. His passion to increase voter participation, seen most recently in his championing automatic voter registration, show that his track record as a forward-thinking Secretary of State is clear and convincing. He has worked tirelessly to bring transparency to a political system that, without his efforts, would be rigged only for those at the top. Those are ideals that I share and feel must be at the core of the Secretary of our Commonwealth.”
