In what could have been a Shakespearean play in four acts, the John Glenn Middle School girl’s basketball team held off Lexington’s Diamond Middle School girls by a score of 38 to 34.
Act I: Thievery and Race Horses – The first half clearly went to JGMS, and Diamond’s girls could not match Bedford’s speed. Bedford scored half a dozen times on stolen balls, leading to a horse-race to the net. Chief among JGMS scorers were Marina Greany and Allie Zorn. Top scorer in the first half was Katherine Vaughn with 8 points. Bedford led at the half, 18-13.

ACT II: Digging from Beneath – When Diamond Middle School was finally able to stop JGMS’s fast breaks, the John Glenn girls switched to feeding the ball to Katherine Vaughn and Anna Knight. Bedford pushed ahead to a ten-point lead by the end of the 3rd quarter, 29-19.
ACT III: Ships Fire from Long Range – With JGMS dominating the boards, Diamond began a barrage of shots from the outside and drew within two points, 31-29, with 2:16 left in the game.
ACT IV: Battle for the Crown – The crowd became raucous. Anna Knight made some key shots and free throws down the stretch. With 1:29 left in the game Diamond sank a three-point shot and took the lead 33-34. Katherine Vaughn and Allie Zorn sank key free throws with less than a minute to play to seal the win, 38-34
