More than two months after signing a lease at Bedford Marketplace, it seems that postal operations are not much closer to moving indoors.
While a general contractor has been hired and preliminary conversations have been conducted, town officials say a building permit application has not been submitted by the Post Office.
“We found that the plans that [the contractor] had in his possession were not stamped by a registered design professional,” said town Code Enforcement Director Chris Laskey. “Once that happens, I believe he will be ready to submit the paperwork and plans to our office for review.”
Both leasing agents with ties to the Bedford Marketplace site, the Dartmouth Company and Urban Retail Management, list the Post Office as a building tenant on marketing materials.
The Post Office has been operating out of trailers in the Marketplace site for over a year.
