After a loss in the semifinals of Session 2 and an overall losing record in Session 3, this team of 8- and 9-year-olds was definitely considered an underdog coming into the Session 3 Playoffs this past Friday. But they persevered, winning the first playoff game 3-1 against the #5 seed; the second playoff game with a “golden goal” in overtime to beat the #1 seed Willard Thunder 1-0 and finally with a 2-0 win against #2 seed Littleton United the team took the Championship game.
Coach Jeremy Goss, along with assistant coaches Martin Mense and Paul Harrington, led these mostly 3rd graders, supporting and training them during the ups and downs of the regular season. This was a group of boys who hadn’t previously played together as a team and had little indoor soccer experience.
Following the heartbreaking loss in Season 2, these boys were hungry and ready for this well-deserved #1 finish, playing beautifully as a team – something really special to watch in kids this young. They are all looking forward to the start of the Bedford Spring Travel Soccer Season.
GO BEDFORD!
