Next week, Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) will join President Barack Obama on a historic trip to Cuba, marking the first time in 88 years that a sitting U.S. President has visited the country.

“I am honored to join President Obama on this historic visit to Cuba,” said Moulton. “The trip is a tangible example of diplomacy at work and will highlight the vast potential for trade, travel, and exchange of ideas between our countries. This is an important step in a long process to normalize relations with Cuba. By continuing to engage Cuba and encouraging the Cuban government to move towards a brighter future for its citizens, we will work to bring an end to undemocratic practices such as unjust imprisonment, restrictions on free speech, and failed economic controls. I look forward to seeing real change for the Cuban people.”

In December 2014, President Obama announced the restoration of full diplomatic ties between the United States and Cuba. Normalizing relations with Cuba is widely embraced by the U.S. business community, religious groups, academia, the scientific community, the media, and Americans of all backgrounds. In fact, a majority of all Americans (56%) and Latinos (62%) in the U.S. favor a change to U.S. – Cuba policy.

Congressman Moulton is also a co-sponsor of the “Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act,” a bipartisan bill with more than 60 cosponsors that would end restrictions on travel by American citizens and legal residents to Cuba.
