Capital Expenditure Committee Updates Their Recommendations

By Meredith McCulloch

FinanceCommitteeChair of the Capital Expenditure Committee Brian Bartkus reported recent changes to their recommendations at the Finance Committee meeting on January 14.

The handicap accessible lift for the Sabourin Field press box, estimated at between $35,000 and $47,000, has been postponed so other sources of funding can be explored. The Town has a waiver on accessibility requirements until April 2017. After that date there may be daily fines for noncompliance.

Repairs to Old Town Hall, which had been slated for Community Preservation funding, have been postponed until a decision about the location of a Town Museum becomes clearer. The Old Town Hall building is one of five town buildings under consideration for the museum.

The purchase of modular classrooms for Lane school will not go forward at this time. The School Committee is planning a feasibility study for an addition.

Correction on January 22, 2016, with thanks to Michael McAllister and Brian Bartkus: “This article had been changed to correct the cost estimate for the press box lift. It is estimated at $35,000 to $47,000 not 547,710, as originally reported.”
