Young athletes from Bedford traveled into Watertown yesterday to honor Coach David Timperio. Football teams from the John Glenn Middle School, and both Bedford High teams along with their coaches and parents attended the wake at St.Patrick’s Church.

Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police escorted Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito into Trooper Timperio’s wake, and also offered an impressive, massed salute to their late colleague.

“I was not lucky enough to have known David when he worked with Bedford’s kids as a youth and middle school coach, or in his capacity with the State Police,” said State Rep Ken Gordon, who joined Superintendent Jon Sills at the memorial wake. “But I know that he touched so many lives in Bedford. My wife Breena, who is a teaching assistant at the high school, told me how deeply he touched the kids of our town. My heart goes out to David and his family in this difficult time.”

According to one parent in attendance, “The football team lined up and all went in together, in single file. The family was extremely moved. It was very solemn and you could feel the love for this man filling the air.”
