Boys from Cub Scout Den 11 attended the Thursday night performance of SHREK, the 2015 Bedford High School musical, courtesy of a grant from the Bedford Cultural Council. Den leader Pam Brown sought the grant thinking that a “free” event might be the only way to get some of the boys to attend such an event. Prior to the show, one scout said every time he hears about a musical, it seems kind of stupid, but after the show, the boys were all smiles.
Despite its 3-hour running time, the BHS performance entertained the Scouts and allowed them to experience play acting and the involvement of an orchestra in making the story all come to life. Scouts and parents alike enjoyed the show. Thanks to the efforts of music director Evan Grunwald, the boys had front row seats.
“Hopefully, as a result of SHREK,” said one parent, “ss the Scouts become young men they will have a greater appreciation for the arts and further explore the many opportunities for including music and the arts in their lives.”
