Time To Take Out the Window AC?

Remember September 6, when youth soccer kicked off in 85 hot and sticky degrees? What a difference a week makes. Saturday started cool and stayed cool, so much so that I wore shorts and it was a mistake. Like many Bedford parents I spent a fair amount of time outdoors at soccer and baseball games over the weekend and enjoyed every crisp and chilly moment. For now we’ll play the waiting game on how long to keep the window air conditioning units in- but if this weather holds it won’t be long.

Pumpkins Everywhere

Nothing says fall like bright orange pumpkins on a sunny day. You probably saw them this week outside at Whole Foods, over by Merriam’s Corner in Concord, or next to Route 2 between the rotary and the left-hand exit for Acton. Add that to the annual run on pumpkin beer, Starbucks’ pumpkin spiced latte and Dunkin’s pumpkin munchkins, and pumpkin pancakes in my house the other morning and you’ve got a pumpkin-filled weekend.

Flatbread Forever

I’m always willing to go to Flatbread or place an order to go- it’s my favorite restaurant in Bedford and there’s not even a close second place finisher. Every Tuesday, Flatbread donates a percentage of sales to a local organization, and last week we were able to eat and support most worthwhile cause- Bedford Elementary Schools Together (BEST). Not only was the food delicious as always, but it was great to walk in and see Bedford people out en masse to support the schools.

Bonus: Primary Day

Primary day was last Tuesday and I happily exercised my right to vote in the statewide primaries. Thanks to all the volunteers who help make every voting day in Bedford run smoothly. See you in November!

Three Down

Bulldog Attack

After defeating Martha’s Vineyard on September 5, the Bucs hosted the Canton Bulldogs under the lights on Friday night hoping to begin the year 2-0. It was not meant to be. The Bucs fell behind early and never managed to gain any momentum against the more experienced visitors from the South Shore. Only a last-minute touchdown prevented a shutout as the Bucs fell 29-7 and dropped to 1-1 on the season. The Bucs host Belmont this Friday at 6:30 at Sabourin Field- make sure to go this week as the next home game won’t be until October 24

Car Crashes Into Marshall’s

While most of Bedford’s attention has been focused on the reconstruction of the right side of the Whole Foods parking lot, the real news was being made on the other side of the plaza last Tuesday as a car crashed into the building and through a window facing the parking lot. Luckily no one was badly hurt, although one person did go to the hospital to be treated.

Remembering 9/11

While not unique to Bedford, the 13th anniversary of 9/11 passed last week and it’s incumbent on us all to never forget the events of that day. I watched not a few memorials and documentaries over the course of last week and continue to struggle with how to explain to my kids what happened that fateful and horrible morning, a morning that for our generation a day that changed the world forever.
