The Bedford Buccaneers varsity football team will play the Concord Carlisle Patriots twice in the 2013 football season,  meeting  in a night game at Bedford’s Sabourin Field on Friday, September 27, and again in the classic Thanksgiving morning match-up in Concord on November 28.

According to Bedford’s Athletic Director Keith Mangan, the schedule was changed last fall in order to determine a true state champion. Playoff alignment will no longer be determined by placement in the league, and Super Bowl playoffs will be reduced from 19 games to 5. The two-year pilot system will maintain traditional Thanksgiving rivalries, although in Bedford’s case it means playing Concord Carlisle High School twice in the same season.

And if construction proceeds on schedule, the September 27 game will be the first game played on Sabourin Field’s artificial turf. Click here to see a full-size version of the Sabourin Field plan from the DPW web site.

Mangan said “I am very excited about the synthetic turf installation. Sabourin Field will truly become the focal point of our athletic program. Once the field is opened,” he continued, “field hockey, soccer and lacrosse [teams] will all be playing their games on the turf, and there will be two additional lanes on the newly-resurfaced track.”
