Special State Primary Election for Senator to be held April 30

Vote buttonA special primary election will be held on Tuesday, April 30, to choose candidates for the office of United States Senator. The polls will be open in Bedford at the John Glenn Middle School on McMahon Avenue from 7am to 8 pm.

The candidates for the Democratic nomination are Edward Markey and James Lynch. The candidates for the Republican nomination are Gabriel E. Gomez, Michael J. Sullivan and Daniel B. Winslow.

The Senate seat was left vacant when John Kerry resigned on February 1 to become Secretary of State. Subsequently William Cowan was appointed Interim Senator by Governor Duval Patrick; Cowan will serve in this post until a new senator is elected.

The winners of the primary election will compete in a special election to be held on June 25. Residents wishing to vote in the special election must be registered with the Town Clerk by June 4.
