After careful consideration, Planning Board Chair Jon Silver has decided not to run for another term.

Silver has been well-suited to serve on the Planning Board because he embodies a unique combination of planning experience and business knowledge. As a developer of energy projects and waterfront real estate, Silver understands the regulatory process and its requirements.  According to Planning Director Glenn Garber, Silver also maintains both a balanced and fair approach to economic development in Bedford and views each proposal on the merits, case by case.

Sandra Hackman added that Silver, as Planning Board colleague and chair, is considered, practical and thoughtful.

“He is modest and listens quietly but when he has something to say, people pay attention. He cuts to the chase on issues. He’s a real asset to the Board and I will miss him,” Hackman said.

Garber added that Silver has helped the Planning Office to modernize: project plans can now be accessed online and better communication about public hearings has become a matter of course.

“Jon has been particularly involved with helping the Planning Office acquire a minimum baseline of resources and staff capacity,” Garber said. “This has allowed us to rise to Bedford’s aspirations and be of greater use to the town.”

Silver has lived in Bedford for 22 years. He and his wife Janine have 3 children aged 21, 19, and 12.
