Emerson Hospital Offers Free Anxiety Workshop for Cancer Patients and Caregivers

Dealing with cancer can produce tremendous anxiety. To provide a measure of support and comfort, Emerson Hospital is offering the free, two-part workshop “Making Peace With Anxiety” for patients, their family members and caregivers. The workshop and practice session will introduce the 10 best, research-based ways to deal with anxiety, such as obsessive worrying, heart pumping, tight stomach and inability to think clearly.

The facilitator, certified psychoanalyst Francis Bigda-Peyton, EdD, of Bedford said participants will learn how to accept and calm anxious states, better understand underlying fears and develop methods of turning anxious energy into constructive action.

Participation in both sessions is highly recommended, since the second session reinforces methods introduced in session one.  Further, it addresses how to identify and overcome obstacles to practicing better self-care.

“Making Peace With Anxiety” will be offered from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17 and Monday, Sept. 24 in Emerson’s Cheney Conference Room A. To register, call Emerson’s Cancer Services Department at (978) 287-3349.

Emerson Hospital is a multi-site health system headquartered in Concord, Mass., with additional facilities in Sudbury, Groton and Westford. The 179-bed hospital provides advanced medical services to more than 300,000 individuals in 25 towns. To learn more, visit www.emersonhospital.org.
